Up and Down

Ever since I have moved to Colorado I have been struggling with my weight (I have struggled with my weight my entire life). I came here very fit and active, the best shape I have been in a very long time, to only gain it all back. I was going through photos on my friends photography website and came across the photo below, it was taken from my trip to Hawaii this past year.

I was mortified to see how much weight I put on. I know I am not "fat", but I am out of shape and it shows. To give you some perspective, I have gained about 10-15lbs since I've moved here. I am only 5'4" so that small amount of weight is really a lot on my small frame. I gain most of my weight in my stomach. My stomach has always been my trouble area and for the first time, in a very long time, I was feeling great about myself in a bikini. I know that many women struggle with their weight and I am no different. I know I should be thankful that I am healthy and I am still on the smaller side and I am. But, how did I let my nice tone mid section, that I worked so hard to get, go? Why does my weight fluctuate so much? Why can I not commit to a workout plan here?

I've decided that I am going to recommit to getting in shape. Wish me luck as I set out on another fitness journey. I am going to try to focus getting back to where I was at in the photo above. I was happy and loving working out. I loved going for a run and going to the gym. I loved the food I was eating and most importantly, I loved my body. I felt fit and confident. I didn't have my dream body, but it was good enough for me.

Anyone have any tips on how to get back on track?

  1. I'm in the same boat as you! I'm short as well and am probably the biggest I have ever been. I'm not "fat" but when it's yourself, you can tell a lot more! Good luck on your journey :)

  2. Start small! I have also had an up and down battle with weight since moving to South Africa almost 5 years ago....add two pregnancies into the mix of that and well...yea! I'm not over weight but again being short....I know how you feel! If you jump in too quickly...you're just going to get burnt out and feel unsuccessful! Start with small goals....like loosing 3kg in January. Or saying you want to work up to being able to run for 5 minutes solid by the end of January. Then each month build on the goals. You can set 2-3 small goals each month...weight, physical, mental but all having to do with getting back in shape and then like I said increase that goal or carry it on each month. Example...if you said you wanted to loose 3kg in Jan and you did then carry it over and say you want to loose another 3kg in Feb!
I hope this helps and good luck!

  3. I am in the same boat as well. I think for me is the gym factor. Since we decided to take the free route, I am missing out on all the class atmosphere and the accountability of using what we pay for. It is much easier now to find something else to do instead of running on my own or doing a workout video online. I also think it is a frame of mind, fit and healthy vs skinny. That is something I really struggle with myself as far as image goes and I have been really working to change my mindset to not be so concerned with a number on a scale but how I feel about myself.
