I'm Running a Marathon!!

I am excited and very nervous to share, that I am RUNNING A MARATHON!!! Joe and I will be running the Walt Disney World Marathon. This will be my 3rd Run Disney event and I am very excited that it will be my first full marathon. I always knew that I wanted it to be my first. (maybe my only)

I can't believe that a few months ago, Joe and I decided it would be a great idea to run a marathon. Looking back on it, I have no idea why we thought that. I have always wanted to run at least one marathon and I am so happy that I am going to be able to share this run with Joe, my biggest supporter. But after my last 1/2 Marathon  I was having second thoughts.

Nothing about running feels right here in Colorado. I can't make it past 2 miles without wanting to turn around and walk home. The furthest run I have done here in Colorado is a 10 mile run. I have a long way to go and not a whole lot of time to prep. I am really hoping that I can get out and put in the miles need to run a successful marathon. Wish me luck!

Have you ever ran a marathon?
Do you have any cold weather running tips?

Thankful - BBB Link UP

Joe is taking over my blog again for this months Boys Behind the Blog link up with Mal and Stephanie

1. Who is your favorite band/musician?
It changes every couple of months, but right now Macklemore is tearing up the charts.

2. What was your first CD/tape?
My first tape of Bone Thugs and Harmony back when they rapped slow. I am also not ashamed to say that I owned the Pat Benatar tape, so go ahead and hit me with your best shot.

3. Who was your first concert?
My first concert was the Rolling Stones at the Syracuse Dome with my Father. I knew none of the songs and was intimidated by the 40 year old women screaming to Mick Jagger.

4. What is your favorite Thanksgiving food?
My favorite Thanksgiving food is the Turkey, white meat, not dry.

5. Finish the sentence: I am thankful for...
I am thankful for Stephanie.  It was so amazing having her to come home to after this deployment.  I can not tell her how appreciative I was to come home to a furnished house and to not have any worries about bills, getting my vehicle, making appointments...  She was so supportive and helped so much.  I am also thankful she let me stop at BDubs before we came home the first night.

Lately

Joe has been home for just under a week and we have been so busy. Here is a run down of what we have been up to lately.
Re-Deployment (Homecoming) - The day had finally arrived Joe came home from his 9 month deployment. I was very nervous for his arrival, but everything went well. I will have a full story of the event once I get my pictures back from my amazing photographer. Here are some pictures that were snapped with my camera.

The Incline - Just two days after Joe's arrival we went and tackled the Incline. I have been raving all about the incline for the past few weeks to Joe and he decided that he wanted to do the Incline since it is still really nice weather out. It was rough getting up to the top, but it was so nice to have Joe right by my side the entire time.

Rihanna Concert - I am pretty lucky when it comes to winning tickets to concerts on the radio, the day Joe came home I was listening to the radio and was prompted to call to win tickets to Rihanna. I didn't win. I was caller 103, I needed to be 107. Of course I told Joe about this and he surprised me with tickets to the concert. The concert was this past Saturday and it was amazing. I loved every moment of it. Rihanna has so many really great songs that I happen to know every single word.

Football Sunday - After Church Joe and I headed to Buffalo Wild Wings! Buffalo Wild Wings was always a Sunday event last football season and this year is no different. I happen to love wings so I don't mind going to BDubs every weekend.

Later that night I got to meet one of Joe's friends and we went to a local brewery. Side note, I have never had a beer before so I was the DD. But, if Beer could be cute this beer was. It was a sampler of all of the beer that the brewery made.

The past few days have gone by quickly and I was so lucky to have the past few days off. This week, it is back to reality... I am headed back to work.

What have you been up to lately?
Have you been to a concert that is amazing this year?

Meet Joe! - BBB Link UP

This week I am linking up with Mal and Stephanie for their Boys Behind the Blog Series. Joe has come to enjoy these posts. He is always asking me if there are new questions coming out. I have also enjoyed them, it's always fun to see if I really do know him as well as I think I do.

1. Describe yourself in 5 words: Smart, relaxed, adventurous, loyal, funny. If I get to add a six it would be lover.
This photo shows him being relaxed, adventurous, loyal, and funny....just not so smart.  Or maybe he is smart because I asked him if we can hold an alligator and he listened to me :)
2. What is your biggest fear? Not being able to take care of the ones I love.

3. What is your favorite candy? Peanut butter m&m, candy corn, York peppermint patties, it is just to hard to pick only one

4. What is the best Halloween costume you have ever worn? Teenage mutant ninja turtles, Donatello.  I am looking forward to the new movie coming out but I do not like April being played by Megan Fox.  Maybe I will bring out the costume for the showing, and Stephanie can be my April.
This is how I see them
And I am sure, this is how Joe sees them!

5. Who is your favorite football team? My fantasy football team the "orange crush".  I did not grow up with a team close to me so I do not have a favorite but with fantasy I can switch to the players who I want to cheer for every week.
I think that was code for he likes the Broncos?

I am so happy to let you all know that next months Boys Behind the Blog post will be written by Joe while he is here in our house!! He should be home from Afghanistan in under a month!!

The Deployment Lately and a GIVEAWAY!!

It has been so tough. We are getting so close, but it still feels really far away. Joe comes home early November and I can not wait! Words cannot describe how much I miss him. I want nothing more then to spend time with him. He has been traveling a lot lately, which makes me nervous about his safety and means that we have a lot less time to talk. I have been so spoiled with all of our communication through out this deployment that 10 minutes a day just doesn't seem to cut it.

Although, I am very excited for his arrival I am also very anxious.  I am nervous that I will be at work when he arrives, that I will miss the phone call letting me know when he gets home, or that I will have such high expectations and I will be let down. Joe has been doing an amazing job at keeping me informed about what to expect with his "re-deployment" (homecoming for us normal people) and have even sent me some really great articles about what it might be like when he returns home. This article is really great if you have a family or even if you don't!

I also must admit that ever since I have moved to Colorado and started working, I have really lost focus on sending him care packages and I feel horrible. He just told me that they will be cutting off his mail very soon. So I guess my days of sending care packages are behind me ( or at least over until the next deployment).

This deployment has been tough, but I think it has brought us a little bit closer. Joe has done an amazing job keeping me updating and walking me though it. He has given me the resources that I need to be able to support him and keep up to date on what is going on. I have learned so much about myself, our relationship, and the army this past 8 months and I can't wait to learn even more. I am so proud of what he does and what so many soldiers and their families do for us.

Do you have any advise for our "re-deployment"?
What was the toughest thing that you had to deal with when your soldier came home from a deployment?

The day I fell from the Sky - Date

A little know fact about Joe is that he was on the West Point Skydiving team. He has jumped out of a plane 1,000s of times. He wanted to share his passion for skydiving with me. So we took a day trip to Skydive Arizona and got a chance to experience something that he loves.
Photos of Joe from his days at West Point
Skydiving has always been something that I have wanted to do. I love aviation and it is a little part of the industry. But I was never brave enough to do it alone. I was so excited when Joe told me about the day he had planned, but I was so nervous. The entire 2 hour drive to Skydive Arizona all I could think about was how I was about to fall out of a plane. What was I thinking. But at this point Joe and I have only been dating for a few months so I really wanted to make a good impression on him. I mean, who doesn't want to date a fun and adventurous girlfriend? Joe had the entire day planned. He made sure that we were in the same plane, even though he jumped alone. He also made sure that the entire process was documented. He got a photographer and videographer to capture my first jump!

I was so anxious as I got my gear on and watched the safety video about jumping. I got my tandem partner and he instructed me on what to do. Who knew you only needed 30 minutes and you were good to go to jump out of a plane. Since Joe has jumped many times in the past, we were put in the plane with all of the "regular" jumpers. I was the only one with a tandem partner. My nerves continued as we walked out to the plane and got in. Joe was by my side the entire time.

We finally reach the correct altitude and everyone got ready to jump. It was getting real. Joe gave me one last kiss and then he prepared to jump out of the plane. Everyone jumped and I was the last one to go. I got strapped to my partner and we made it out to the door just in time to watch Joe jump. I was super impressed that he knew exactly what to do. Be fore I knew it it was time to go. I got to the door and took a look out, the ground was so far away, and I was out the door before I can chicken out. The few moments on the edge of the door were amazing.

The free fall was amazing. I honestly thought that it would go by so quickly, but it didn't. I feel like time actually went by slower. The air blowing past my face, the cool air on my arms, and the joy of being in free fall. I was taking it all in and then everything got so quiet. The parachute was pulled and we were gliding slowly to the ground. It is amazing how you go from falling so fast to gently gliding. As I was getting closer to the ground I looked around and took it all in. The ground approached and we had a soft landing. Joe was waiting on the ground for me and greeted me with a kiss.

Skydiving was so much fun and I loved ever minute of it. If you haven't done it, you really should do it at least once. Thank you Joe for making this day so special and I can't wait to do it again.

Have you ever been skydiving?
What is the one thing that you have always wanted to do, but haven't had the courage?

A dragon is totally an Animal! - BBB Link UP

It's that time of the month again, Joe is taking over my blog and linking up with Stephanie and Mallory for their Boys Behind the Blog series. Joe is loving taking over my blog and answering these questions and I am loving reading his answers (plus it's nice to get a pass on writing a blog post). This guy cracks me up sometimes. Here are his answers to this months questions:

1. If you were an animal, what animal would you be?
I would be a dragon. I could fly, breathe fire, and have invincible armor scales.

***UPDATE, Joe let me know that he meant a dragon like this(not like the cute one I picked) He said my dragon could do nothing:

2. What is your favorite meal?
Filet Mignon, baked potato, blue moon and a chocolate fudge brownie.  Additionally, I am looking forward to eating some Honey BBQ wings from Bdubs or a good slice of New York Style Pizza.

3. Do you use any forms of Social Media? What is your favorite?
The only social media I use is Facebook, I use it to get messages from friends, I do not post anything.  I also use Bloglovin to keep up with my favorite blogger, Stephanie at Living in the Moment.

4. Beer, wine, liquor, other, or none of the above?
I am not a big drinker.  I ocossionally drink beer with a meal and liquor or wine if I am out for the night.  I do not drink much because I do not like being hungover.

5. Complete the sentence: "Never have I ever..."
Never have I ever skinny dipped, hunted or smoked a cigarette.

Thanks for stopping by,
Joe
Mal Smiles

*Stephanie picked all photos used for this post, including the cute dragon ;)
